About Kumbhalgarh

Explore the grandeur of the Rajput era, by visiting the majestic Kumbhalgarh fort. Built in the 15th century, it is considered the most formidable fort of Rajasthan. Kumbhalgarh is approximately 90 kilometres from Udaipur city. It is built on a hilltop and is at about 3608 feet high above the sea level. Kumbhalgarh fort has about 360 temples and seven secure gateways. You can bask in the picturesque view of Aravali range as well as sand dunes of The Thar. Out of the 360 temples Kumbhalgarh encapsulates, 300 are Hindu temples and about 60 are Jain temples. Here goes an interesting story about the construction of the Kumbhalgarh fort. When Rana Kumbha faced obstacles with construction, he was advised by a spiritual preceptor that a voluntary human sacrifice is the only way out to overcome the hurdle. After no one volunteered for a long time, a pilgrim volunteered to sacrifice himself. Main gate of the fortress named as Hanuman Pol, has a shrine along with a temple as a gesture of gratitude towards the sacrifice.
